Halle at the Saale River (Halle an der Saale)
Where the Salt, Classic Music, Chocolate and History combines
The city of the composer Georg Handel and the Saale river. City full of greenery, nature and places to be discovered. The rich history of salt production in Halle (Saale) goes back to the Bronze Age, making Halle a relatively prosperous city, home of a salt-mining industry and centre of trade for many years.
Today, Halle is an economic and educational center in central Germany. The Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, with campuses in Halle and Wittenberg, is the largest university in Saxony-Anhalt, one of the oldest universities in Germany, and a nurturing ground for the local startup ecosystem. The German National Academy of Sciences, commonly known as Leopoldina, has its seat in Halle too.
